Artist’s Initiative
More than a half century ago, Charley Toorop, Adriaan Roland Holst and Constant Nieuwenhuis initiated the Artist Centre Bergen (‘KunstenaarscentrumBergen’ or KCB). From the start, the members were artists of all disciplines; composers, writers, theatre producers, painters, photographers, sculptors and ceramists. Their purpose was to inspire, boost and support each other, among others by organising special exhibitions together.
Connection to Bergen
One of the very first KCB exhibitions was held in the art room of collector and patron Piet Boendermaker, Lucebert’s later studio. At present, the KCB is located on the first floor of the old building of Kranenburgh, where about ten expositions are on show each year.
