Stitch Witch

Lara Schnitger

The exuberant and humorous work of artist and ecofeminist Lara Schnitger (NL, 1969) pointedly addresses issues around women’s status, gender inequality, and sexual oppression. She utilises textiles to craft both intimate sculptural pieces and expansive installations, often inviting public participation. Her solo exhibition at Museum Kranenburgh introduces the public to the diverse oeuvre of this internationally acclaimed artist, who is underexposed in the Netherlands. For Stitch Witch, Schnitger has developed new works that explore the connection between humans and nature.

Suffragette City parade in Alkmaar

On Saturday, March 8—International Women’s Day—Museum Kranenburgh and Lara Schnitger, in collaboration with WomanLink Schnitgers, organized the provocative parade and performance Suffragette City, this time in Alkmaar. With this parade, Schnitger draws attention to the position of women, gender inequality, and sexual oppression in a contagious way.
