Studio C takes you into the fantastic universe of illustrator Alice Hoogstad: from a stork that slowly transforms into a crocodile to a girl who colors the black-and-white streets of a city with her crayons, helped by friendly color monsters.
Monsters and Crocodiles
Alice Hoogstad
Studio C, the educational workshop of Museum Kranenburgh, is collaborating with Bergen-based children’s book illustrator Alice Hoogstad on Monsters and Crocodiles. The exhibition takes you into Hoogstad’s universe, populated by monsters and other fantastical creatures. Hoogstad displays original illustrations she created for various books: from a stork slowly transforming into a crocodile to a girl who uses her crayons to color in the black-and-white streets of a city, with the help of a number of friendly color monsters.
Alice Hoogstad – Monsters and Crocodiles is the fourth exhibition in a series of participatory projects by Studio C, in which young and old can get to work themselves in a studio set up by the artist. This turns the museum into a creative workshop for everyone! We have previously held successful exhibitions in this series with illustrators Paul Faassen, Ludwig Volbeda, and Thé Tjong-Khing. In this exhibition, visitors are once again taken on a journey through the way of seeing, thinking, and creating of the artist, Alice Hoogstad.
Alice Hoogstad (NL, 1957) has been illustrating children’s books for many years, including Polleke by Guus Kuijer. She also draws for Sesame Street, but prefers to work on her own picture books. She works for various well-known publishers, such as Lemniscaat, Leopold, and Querido. She has now contributed to more than 200 children’s and young adult books. Monsterboek, which won a Gouden Penseel award (2015), was her first work for Lemniscaat publishers. Later, Mijn oma is een ooievaar and Kom uit die kraan (with Tjibbe Veldkamp) were also published there.
