The countless friendships, relationships, and family ties formed in the artists’ village of Bergen form a fascinating history that connects many works of art and their creators.
Among Friends
Mapping the Bergen School
In the summer of 2019, Kranenburgh will once again present an attractive anthology from his collection of works by the Bergen School, featuring prominent artists such as Leo Gestel, Charley Toorop, and Dirk Filarski. Works from the Bergen School’s circle and several remarkable new acquisitions are also included in the exhibition. Among the acquisitions are a colorful early still life by Dirk Filarski and a large, sunny scene by Kees Maks. The countless friendships, relationships, and family ties formed in the artists’ village of Bergen form a fascinating history that connects many artworks and their creators. This also applies to favorite places in Bergen that they enjoyed visiting and immortalizing, such as the Oude Hof (Old Court). This fascinating network of connections, cross-connections, and commonalities forms the common thread throughout the presentation “Among Friends – Mapping the Bergen School.”
