Wonder demonstrates that the artists’ village of Bergen has been vibrant for over a century. It offers the first glimpse into the large number of renowned artists associated with the village and demonstrates that Bergen’s artistic landscape far exceeds its physical size. Artists from various movements, generations, and disciplines are represented, from the Bergen School to the present day. Wonder also marks the opening of Kranenburgh after a thorough two-year renovation.

Bergen, an artists’ village for over a century
For over a century, the village has attracted major figures from the art world. Wonder offers insight into defining encounters and clashes between genres, disciplines, and generations; from the Bergen School to Cobra to contemporary artists. Visual artists, poets, composers, and photographers participate.
New Construction
After a two-year renovation, Kranenburgh boasts a beautiful new building by Dirk Jan Postel, in addition to the historic villa. The architect also designed the Dordrechts Museum and the Caldic Collection. He calls his creation an expanding labyrinth. Others call it the mini-Kröller-Müller of North Holland.
