Over the Top!

Dirk Filarski

Known as a painter of the Bergen School, Dirk Filarski (NL, 1885–1964) was above all an artist who carved his own artistic path. Over the Top! follows the travel-loving Filarski from his first visits to Bergen to his many journeys across Europe and into parts of North Africa.

Exhibition space 5

More than seventy paintings and prints trace the breadth of his career spanning over fifty years. The exhibition highlights the period from 1912 to 1917, when he worked extensively in Switzerland and developed his distinctive and powerful style. Filarski’s paintings from this time are considered a high point of his oeuvre.
